Myth

A character's Myth is a representation of points that character has available to spend on training Skills. Once Myth is spent on training in a Skill, it is used up and disappears from a character's available Myth pool. Myth is acquired through the accumulation of influence - though the exact method of Myth acquisition depends on whether the character is involved in a level-based or point-based environment.

In level-based environments, a character will start play with a few points of Myth (usually between 1 and 5 points) and will gain 1 point of Myth with each level the character gains during play within the environment. If a character loses a level in a level-based environment, they will lose one point of Myth. This loss of Myth may result in the character having a negative Myth value, requiring them to level up again just to reach zero. A character does not lose skill value purchased through spent Myth in this situation, however, so no actual benefit is lost.

In point-based environments, a character will start play with a few hundred points of Myth (usually between 200 and 1000 points) and will gain 1 point of Myth with each point of Influence the character gains during play within the environment. If a character loses Influence in a point-based environment, they will lose an equal amount of Myth. This loss of Myth may result in the character having a negative Myth value, requiring them to regain the lost influence just to reach zero. A character does not lose skill value purchased through spent Myth in this situation, however, so no actual benefit is lost.

Once Myth has been spent, it cannot be regained except in the case of a Myth Reset. Every character in RPS is granted a total of ten Myth Resets. The first of these resets is free, but the following nine will each cost RP$5000 (RP$ are role-play currency wholly contained within RPS and holding no actual value). These 10 allowed Myth Resets allow a player to make a mistake or two in their character build and easily reclaim all spent Myth at a later time to re-build their character skills in a more accurate/appropriate manner. To reset Myth, a player need only press the R in the yellow circle next to their Myth readout on their HUD. A confirmation window will appear and, if confirmed, all of the character's skills will be reset to zero (or to their natural starting level if not zero) and the player will receive all of their Myth points back to spend in whatever way they wish. Total allowed resets are limited to 10 in order to prevent players from exploiting the system and switching skills to maximize their ability in various tasks depending on current need or desire.
