Release Date: August 11, 2010

  • Several healing-influence abuses solved, including a further reduction of influence gained for healing. It has unfortunately been determined that healing must give only minimal influence as otherwise it is too quickly abused.
  • Added ability for template-specific damage or all-but-template damage for inclusion in the Interaction API.
  • Improved HUD memory of current health level by allowing update to current health level during non-combat mode.
  • Overhead Meter now appropriately shows character rank when a disguise is removed.
  • Some improvements made to web-end stat adjustments and myth resets.
  • Improved application of the Resist portion of stats.
  • Adjusted influence-loss over time for non-subscribers who are above level 3. The adjustments are as follows:
    • In order to prevent abuse of those who support the system by high level characters who choose to spend long periods of time unsubscribed due to the relatively tiny loss in influence experienced in relation to their total ... influence loss will now be set at 1% of total influence / six minutes rather than 1 point / six minutes. This loss will persist until the character either re-subscribes or reaches level 3 (max level allowed for non-subscribers).
    • Influence loss for those above level 3 and unsubscribed will persist in both RP and SPAR mode, whereas in the past it persisted only in RP mode.
    • Influence loss for defeat in SPAR mode for unsubscribed users above level 3 (the way it was in RPS 2.0) has been re-instated for RPS 3.0. Double-loss on RP combat has also been reinstated as it was in 2.0.
    • It is appropriate to reiterate here that RPS is happy to have 'free' or 'guest' users and willingly provides them with an introductory experience to the system by allowing them to gain up to 1599 points of influence. However, we wish to reward only those players who support the system and help us further develop RPS with the ability to reach higher levels and gain greater skill. As such, it is important that those who subscribe for a time and then choose to stop are not able to continue seeing the benefits that those who actively support the system enjoy.
    • It is also important to reiterate that influence loss for non-subscribers above level 3 occurs only when they are actively wearing their RPS HUD in an active RPS area. It does not occur while logged off, in other areas of SL, or not wearing their HUD.

Some Helpful Notes:

You should never use more than one RPS HUD at a time. Each RPS HUD keeps within it a record of your character and updates that record to the database when you wear it. If you are switching between two or more HUDs, each will be retaining its own records and contradict the other when worn. Doing so often results in a loss of influence and a sense that no progress toward level is being made.

You should not attempt to multi-equip weapons (such as wearing a bow and a sword at the same time). While the capability to do so is a bug that will be solved when older versions of weapons including this bug are disabled on or about the 28th of August, 2010, this bug can also cause wildly erratic (in a bad way for you, the weapon user) functionality in weapon damages. Often, multi-equipping will reduce your weapon damage capability to that of a 'generic' weapon (less effective than normal weapons) or disable it outright (reducing it to a no-damage weapon). To avoid these situations, simply avoid cheating and keep only one weapon equipped at a time.

You should do everything you possibly can to avoid logging out of SL or teleporting away from your role play area while defeated. Your defeated state lasts only a couple of minutes and you should remain in your environment for those couple of minutes in order to allow rescue, capture, etc. Once you are given the option to revive, you may revive and leave the area or log off.

You should always ensure that you are using the latest version of RPS, as previous versions are disabled over time and you will find your character no longer updating to the database if you continue to use an old version. In such cases, you may lose days or weeks of influence, RP$, etc - depending on how long you have persisted in using an outdated version of the HUD.

You should always report any bugs you experience on the RPS Feedback page. If RPS does not receive a bug report, the bug cannot be solved. Responses to feedback are placed on the feedback page right underneath the report. When reporting a bug, information that is helpful to me includes the last 3-5 actions you performed before the bug occurred, exactly what the bug was (if your Physical stat suddenly changed from 170 to 215, tell me that your Physical stat increased by 45 points), and if you have been able to re-create it by repeating any particular action.

If SL crashes for you, it is entirely possible that when you log back in RPS will have lost up to your last 60 minutes of play (meaning it may or may not have also lost any RP$ or influence gained or lost during that time). There is NOTHING RPS can do about that -- if Second Life crashes, that is a Second Life crash and often the script is 'rolled back' to its last stable state when you log back in. Fortunately, you will never lose more than 60 minutes of play time in these situations (due to RPS periodically updating to the database), but please understand that as much as I would like to - I cannot control whether SL crashes or the results of that crash. I can only do my best to protect your RPS stats against them - and that has been done.

You should always have fun when role playing - and always recognize it as a game that ultimately means nothing but fun. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, somethings nothing happens, somethings the wrong thing happens, and sometimes everything falls into place. It's all just a game and all just fun. Never let yourself get stressed over it - ever.
